Earthdog trials let terriers and dachshunds indulge their favorite talent: racing along an underground tunnel in search of prey. The American Kennel Club and American Working Terrier Association can help you get started.

Other fun stuff:

Make a sandbox or stake out a patch of ground in your yard that's just for your dog. With your pooch watching in a sit-stay, bury his toys or a few treats. Then let him loose to dig out the treasure. Up the ante by burying the goodies when he's not there.
