Funny (but real) dog breeds
Monday September 29th, 2008
The AKC recognizes more than 150 dog breeds, and DogTime has in-depth breed profiles for most of them. Dog breed names are serious business, but some of the names make for funny business, eliciting giggles when pronounced and are even funnier when said 10 times fast. Below is our list of strange dog breed names that lead to laughter and make great cocktail party chatter. Though funny in their own right, hybrid names like Peekapoo and Puggle have not been included here.
Bearded Collie: A relative of the bearded dragon.
Black and Tan Coonhound: Not to be confused for a Coonhound drinking a cold pint of Guinness and Bass, otherwise known as a black and tan.
Bluetick Coonhound: One would think a hound with ticks would be a problem.
Bolognese: Great spaghetti sauce
Nova Scotia Duck Tolling Retriever: Say that 10 times fast.
Pocket Beagle: Snoopy would be offended.
Rat Terrier: The evolved form of the standard New York rat.
Toy Fox Terrier: What self-respecting dog wants to be a toy?
Whippet: Great Devo song. Whippet good.
