Using food during training may be good for your dog's manners, but it can be bad for her waistline--and health--if you're not careful. When you're doing a lot of training, measure out your dog's daily allotment of treats and kibble each morning, and use food from that pile during training. Anything left over can go into your dog's food bowl for supper.

Comments
“Whenever I try to teach my dog any command, I use food treats to get him going. Always works! And I also make sure to give him praise. dogs love to be praised so don't deny them of that especially if they deserve it :=)”
“As it says in this article....Obedience training helps your dog see you as her leader, and it also gives her a mental workout--something that many canines need just as much as physical exercise to stave off boredom and make them feel useful. VERY GOOD advice!”
