Shelter Dog Was ‘Discarded Like Trash’ Until a Human Saw Him for What He’s Worth

A few weeks after a difficult stretch that landed Moose in the hospital, he is finally getting to do something wonderfully ordinary: play. During his foster meet-and-greet, the shelter dog warms up to another dog, bouncing around with playful bows and a wagging tail.

The video shared by @pawzoffame shows a very different Moose from the shelter dog who was fighting to survive. He is curious, goofy, and clearly interested in making a new friend. Soon, the happy yard visit gives way to photos from his foster home, where Moose is stretched out on a cozy bed.

Shelter dog goes from fighting to survive to sleeping in cozy bed

The video starts with Moose, who appears to be an American Staffordshire Terrier mix, meeting his future foster family in the shelter yard. He stays close at first, watching the other dog before slowly moving in for a closer look. Then they start playing. His friend gives a few playful bows and takes little bouncy steps. Moose keeps making those almost-started, almost-stopped moves dogs do when they are deciding whether to chase or pounce. Both their tails stay busy the whole time.

It is a simple scene, but it is a big change for a dog who had recently been in the hospital. Moose had left the hospital shortly before this meet and greet, and the people around him were already noticing that he looked brighter and more like himself.

The update says his foster brother, Kilo, is helping Moose settle in and showing him what life can look like outside the hospital and shelter.

Then the clip moves to still photos from Moose’s foster home. There is a very happy-looking Moose, followed by one especially cozy shot of him sleeping on a warm bed. The contrast is hard to miss. He has gone from focusing on survival to getting comfortable enough to stretch out and sleep.

Hundreds of people have reacted to the update, with viewers praising everyone who stepped in for him. One person called Moose “a warrior,” while another thanked the people who showed him how dogs should be treated.

His foster mom left a simple message in the comments: “Moooooose you’re so special.” And that pretty much sums up where Moose is now.
