Tripod Shelter Dog Waited for a Second Chance & a Community Made Sure She Got One

You never really know how far a shelter dog‘s story can travel when people come together to help. Chickie, a three-legged pup, had no idea her chance at a fresh start would come from over 1,300 miles away. A video documenting her adoption shows the sweet moment she finally leaves the shelter behind and begins her journey to her new family.

Tripod dog goes from shelter life to finding a forever home

A video shared on Instagram by @humanebroward shows the emotional moment Chickie’s shelter stay came to an end. At the start of the clip, the tripod pup sits quietly inside her kennel as a staff member holds her adoption card. Chickie seems unaware of what is happening around her. However, she is about to leave the only place she has become familiar with for a completely new life.

A staff member eventually opens her kennel and helps her out. Chickie is then carried to a crate outside, where her journey to meet her new family begins. She would soon be traveling more than 1,300 miles to start life with the people who adopted her.

The transition was understandably overwhelming for Chickie. Humane Society of Broward County explained that she had become comfortable with the shelter, its staff, and the people she had learned to trust. When the time came to leave, she was nervous and needed plenty of patience and reassurance to feel safe during the beginning of her journey.

But the nervousness of leaving the shelter was followed by a much happier milestone. Chickie ultimately arrived at her new home and was officially adopted, giving the tripod dog the fresh start she had been waiting for.

Her adoption was made possible in large part by people who never even met her in person. Chickie’s new family found her after her video was shared repeatedly by members of the community. The post traveled far enough to reach people more than 1,300 miles away. That, eventually, connected Chickie with the family that would bring her home.

The shelter also thanked Chickie’s new family for giving her the loving home she deserves. Special thanks went to @dollys_dream_, who sponsored Chickie’s adoption fee and helped support her move into her new life.
