Shelter Dog Bound by a Painful Stigma Is Desperately Fighting To Win a Losing Battle

It is heartbreaking to see dogs abandoned by the families they once trusted. These innocent animals are left in shelters, often spending months waiting for someone to give them a second chance. A recent social media post highlighted the heartbreaking story of Ares, a shelter dog desperately hoping to find a forever home.

However, despite his gentle nature, the video revealed that the lingering “Pit Bull stigma” surrounding him has become an obstacle standing between him and a loving family.

Shelter dog’s ‘stigma’ is keeping him from getting the second chance he deserves

The video posted by @helpingforgottenpaws highlights the struggles of Ares, a Pit Bull who has spent 150 days at the shelter waiting for a family to choose him. Maria, a volunteer and reel creator, shared the pup’s story, explaining that Ares arrived as a stray despite clearly having once belonged to someone.

Sadly, no one came forward to look for him. For Maria, watching a dog she cares about get repeatedly overlooked has been especially difficult. Maria called Ares her favorite dog and said he is one of the reasons she continues showing up at the shelter even when she is exhausted. She knows the pup is waiting for someone to give him a chance, but she also understands that she cannot provide him with the one thing he needs most: a home.

“He loves to be loved on, and he has so much love to give back. He is incredibly friendly with every stranger he meets,” Maria describes the pup. She continued, “He has been friendly with dogs, has done well with kids, and walks beautifully on a leash. He is not a fan of cats.”

According to Maria, Ares’ biggest obstacle may be the “Pit Bull stigma” attached to his appearance. She explained that potential adopters often see him stressed, barking, and pacing inside his kennel. That first impression can scare people away before Ares has an opportunity to show them his true personality. Despite his efforts to get their attention, the pup continues to be passed over.

Maria is now appealing to potential adopters to look beyond Ares’ stigma and give him the opportunity to show what a loving companion he can be. After spending 150 days in the shelter, Ares is still waiting for someone willing to see the dog behind the kennel behavior and take him home.
