Human Finds Shelter Dog Crying Inside Kennel, Desperate for Someone To Hear Her

For dogs accustomed to having a family, being placed in a shelter can be an especially confusing and stressful experience. The sudden loss of familiar people and surroundings can leave them unsure of what will happen next. One shelter dog named Diamond appears to be struggling with that uncertainty, with a video showing her crying from inside her kennel as she waits for someone to notice her.

Diamond, a two-year-old black Pit Bull mix, is currently in urgent need of help at Walton County Animal Control. A video shared on Instagram by @savethispup shows her inside her kennel, crying as she appears desperate to get out. Text accompanying the footage explains that Diamond “wants out so bad she’s crying.”

What makes Diamond’s situation particularly painful is that she has been through this before. This is her second time at the shelter, but the first time she was there, her owner came back to take her home. This time, the people she was familiar with did not return.

Diamond may have expected the same outcome, only to find herself continuing to wait. The video captures her crying in her kennel, seemingly hoping that someone will come back for her. After having experienced life with a family, the shelter environment may be particularly difficult for her to understand.

However, the rescue says Diamond is much calmer once she is outside her kennel. According to the shelter, she is quiet, gentle and easygoing. She also walks well on a leash, giving potential adopters a chance to see a different side of her personality away from the stress of confinement.

The rescue describes Diamond as a dog who is not asking for much. More than anything, she appears to want the stability of having a person or family to call her own again. Her crying may be a reflection of how badly she wants to leave the kennel rather than an indication that she is difficult to handle.

Her situation is also complicated by the challenges faced by many black dogs and Pit Bull-type breeds in shelters. The rescue points out that Diamond belongs to both groups, which can make it harder for pups like her to attract attention from potential adopters.

For that reason, the video is intended to help Diamond reach someone who may be willing to meet her in person. The footage ends with a plea for viewers to come meet her and give her a reason to stop crying.
