Trying to read a book is hard enough without a Golden Retriever deciding the pages make the perfect pillow. That’s exactly what happened to one little girl, whose reading session came to an unexpected halt when her dog, Sawyer, rested his chin squarely on her book. Instead of moving him herself, she patiently asked him to budge. His response, or lack of one, has delighted viewers on Instagram.

The video, shared by @cathjenkinsnoel, begins with the young girl sitting quietly with a book while Sawyer relaxes beside her. Before long, the dog gently lowers his head onto the open pages, leaving the girl unable to continue reading. Rather than moving him herself, she patiently asks for his cooperation.

“Can you please move your face,” she says, explaining that she’s trying to flip the page. Her request is polite and calm, but Sawyer doesn’t seem convinced there’s a problem. The Golden Retriever stays exactly where he is, his chin still resting comfortably on the book as though it were the most natural place in the world. Even after the little girl repeats her request, he shows no sign of moving. If anything, he appears completely content with his decision to remain right where he is.

The interaction only becomes funnier as the moments pass. While the girl continues trying to reason with her furry companion, the person filming, presumably her mother, can be heard laughing in the background at the gentle stand-off unfolding in front of her.
