After Being Surrendered Twice, Shelter Dog Proves Third Time’s the Charm

Two homes hadn’t worked out, so a third chance probably wasn’t something Diamond expected anymore. In the video shared by @sharing.lov, the shelter dog walks out of her kennel without realizing she’ll never have to sleep there again. Someone holds up an “I’ve Been Adopted” sign beside her while she happily wags away.

She doesn’t know yet that this trip is finally taking her home. She’d already been surrendered twice before her first birthday. Even after everything, she heads for the shelter doors with her tail wagging like she still believes good things can happen.

Shelter dog finds his forever human after being surrendered twice

The video begins with Diamond sitting on her kennel bed, looking up at the camera with a cheerful smile while her tail wags. A forgotten chew toy sits beside her as the words, “She didn’t know…” appear across the screen. Moments later, an “I’ve Been Adopted” sticker comes into view, followed by the simple but emotional message: “This was goodbye.”

The moment she’s clipped onto her leash, Diamond is ready to go. She’s practically hurrying toward the shelter door. In a slow-motion clip, we see her walk out beside her new mom toward the car. As the ride continues, the same words keep appearing on screen: “She didn’t know…” Each one reveals another piece of the life waiting for her. She didn’t know she had just found her family. She didn’t know that little kiss in the passenger seat was the start of her new life.

Once they are home, everything changes. The video shows Diamond, now Kai, running laps around the backyard with her three new dog siblings. They chase each other across the grass before the camera finds Kai smiling from the couch, looking completely settled. As the caption beautifully puts it, “Now she knows… she’s home.”

More than 9,000 people have already liked the former shelter dog’s video, with the comments filling up with excitement over Kai finally getting her happy ending. Her new owner also shared an update in the comments, writing that Kai is “the best baby, smart, and so happy” and that she’s finally “home forever.” It took a little longer than anyone hoped, but Kai landed exactly where she belonged.
