Scared Shelter Dog Runs From Human Until One Act of Kindness Changes Everything

Millie had already decided the safest place in the world was underneath her kennel bed. Then one patient volunteer gave her a reason to peek back out. In the video shared by @humanebroward, the timid 1-year-old shelter dog starts out too frightened to trust anyone, yet by the end she is slowly discovering that not every new person brings something to fear. For a dog who has been overwhelmed by shelter life, this unhurried kindness means everything.

Shelter dog learns to trust human after they show her love

Shelter life can be extremely hard for dogs. The clip opens with Millie crouched low inside her kennel, alertly watching the volunteer encouraging her forward. Earlier, she had been completely hidden beneath her raised bed and even darted to the opposite side when someone tried to check on her.

On the next try, though, she pauses instead of running. After a few cautious moments, she takes tiny steps closer and gives a tiny tail wag. Finally, we see her sweet face as she leans in for affection. And then she happily poses for a few selfies with the loving volunteer.

But the volunteer doesn’t stop there. She has got goodies for Millie. A soft bed, a cozy blanket, and a bully stick soon arrive in Millie’s kennel, just as described in the shelter’s heartfelt caption. It doesn’t take long before the nervous little pup settles onto her new blanket, happily chewing away.

When the volunteer comes back later, Millie is sitting sweetly on her bed with her ears perked up, slowly working up the courage to sniff around her kennel. Hearing the volunteer call her “brave” feels completely deserved.
