Golden Retriever Can’t Quite Figure Out the New Baby but Decides to Give It a Try

Lola took one look at the family’s newest arrival and seemed to reach the same conclusion every confused older sibling does: “No, thanks.” The adorable clip posted by @lolaa__golden_retriever follows the curious Golden Retriever as she tries her very best to understand why the tiny baby in front of her keeps making so much noise. She doesn’t have any experience with newborns, but that certainly doesn’t stop her from volunteering to help. Whether her plan actually works is another story.

Golden Retriever cautiously interacts with the family’s new baby in a heartwarming first meeting

The video begins with the newborn lying on a play mat while Lola sits directly in front of the little one, watching every movement with complete concentration. Mum stays close by, keeping an eye on both of them as the baby lets out a loud cry. Lola’s expression says it all. She tilts her head, stares for a second, and looks genuinely puzzled.

Then, apparently deciding that somebody has to fix the situation, she carefully reaches out with one paw toward the baby’s tiny legs. The on-screen text jokes, “Where is the off switch on this thing?” and it’s hard not to laugh because Lola really does look like she is troubleshooting the problem.

Mum gently lifts her paw away and reminds her to be careful. For a brief moment, it almost seems as though the crying has stopped. Lola watches hopefully… only for the baby to start crying all over again. The next caption appears: “Nope didn’t work.”

Through it all, the Golden Retriever never loses interest. She keeps watching the little one, completely baffled. Anyone who has spent time around the breed knows they are naturally gentle and eager to be involved, even if they aren’t always sure what they are supposed to do.

The funny clip has already picked up more than 20,900 likes, with viewers having plenty to say. One laughed, “Is she looking for the off button?” while another joked, “At least turn the volume down.” It may not have been the smoothest greeting when this Golden Retriever met the newborn, but it was certainly one to remember.
