Not every dog arrives at a shelter because someone chose to surrender them. Some are simply found waiting where they were left, with no way of explaining how they got there. Shared by @foster_and_found, this heartbreaking video introduces Rocko, a young shelter dog whose story began tied to a fence in downtown Los Angeles. It has now become a race against time. At just three years old, he’s still full of puppy energy, curiosity, and hope, even after months of watching people walk past him.
Shelter dog at risk for euthanasia desperately waits for a new home
The video opens with the sweet shelter dog looking up from inside his kennel. The in-video caption explains that his life could end before it truly begins. A second later, Rocko is curled up in the darker corner of his kennel. Another message shares the devastating reality that he’s at risk of euthanasia because of stress-related behaviors.
Once he’s outside, though, the difference is immediate. Rocko looks visibly relaxed and starts wagging his tail. The post’s caption explains that he was found tied to a fence near a tent with no identification. Even so, he’s remained friendly with the people who’ve taken the time to know him.
The sweet shelter dog quickly shows another side of himself. He happily sits when asked. Then he sprints after a tennis ball with all the excitement of a much younger pup before racing right back, ready for the next game. Later, he sits beside a volunteer, taking treats gently. You can tell that he’ll thrive with some basic obedience training.
The video also shows him participating in playgroups with other dogs. It ends where it began, with Rocko back inside his kennel, waiting for someone to choose him before time runs out.
According to the post, Rocko is affectionate, eager to learn, and would benefit from structure. Hundreds of viewers have already rallied behind him. One called him “a real adoptable guy,” while another couldn’t believe such a sweet, puppy-like dog was facing this deadline. Rocko is waiting to hear some good news at North Central Animal Shelter in Los Angeles.
