Beagle freed from medical research, is slowly discovering a newfound freedom
The clip shows the sweet pup sitting entirely frozen on her elevated bed in her kennel. She visibly trembles the second she notices a shelter volunteer filming her. Her survival instincts cause her to cautiously sniff the air to investigate the visitor. Then she immediately looks away and tightly stiffens her body, bracing for the worst. There’s a slight movement from the cameraperson, which causes the poor girl to flinch with deep-seated anxiety.
She crouches down low and flat against the bedding in total surrender. You can tell that this nervous behavior is a direct result of her past confinement. These small hound dogs typically love tracking scents and interacting with human companions. Instead, this sweet Beagle from the video spent her entire life inside a medical research laboratory.
The rescue organization posted a touching explanation about the slow recovery process: “Even with all they’ve been through, each one is incredibly gentle and so badly wants to trust. We have no doubt that with all the TLC they’re receiving, they’ll become a little braver each day”
