A heartbreaking video about a senior shelter dog named Victor has struck an emotional chord online after showing that, despite spending his days behind a kennel door, he still remembers the tricks someone once lovingly taught him. The clip reminds viewers that while Victor may be 10 years old, he hasn’t lost his gentle spirit or his hope of finding a forever family.
Shelter dog behind the kennel door, who hasn’t forgotten past tricks, deserves a second chance
Shared by animal rescue advocate Sharing Love, the video tells Victor’s story from his perspective, highlighting the harsh reality many senior shelter dogs face as they wait to be noticed. The video opens with a quiet message that sets the tone. “They say getting older is a privilege… but sometimes it doesn’t feel that way.”
As people walk past his kennel, Victor appears eager for attention, wagging his tail and looking hopefully through the glass. The narration continues with another painful thought. “When people walk past my kennel… I wonder if all they see is a number.”
A close-up of Victor’s kennel card shows that he is a 10-year-old male Plott Hound mix. His age may explain why many shelter visitors often overlook him. The video reflects on Victor’s younger years, imagining how differently people may have viewed him.
“When I was younger, I felt like people looked at me differently. Maybe they smiled a little longer. Maybe they believed I had so many more years left to give,” the text states. But over time, the video’s message suggests, his age became the first thing people noticed instead of his personality.
He loves going on walks, and every time someone asks him to “sit” or “shake,” Victor becomes so excited that he throws both paws high into the air to show he still remembers everything he was taught.
In the caption, the creator shared more about Victor’s journey and why his story has been especially difficult to witness. Victor is currently staying at Cobb County Animal Services in Marietta, Georgia, where he arrived as a stray on May 9.
Although shelter staff waited, no one ever came to reclaim him. The creator admitted they often wonder how a 10-year-old dog could get lost without anyone searching for him.
