A loving home can completely transform an animal’s life. For dogs that have spent years without the comforts most pets enjoy, simple moments like a nap on the couch or a cuddle with a family member can feel like an entirely new world. A recent Instagram video shared by user @ashleynicolerinaldo has touched viewers by showing a rescue dog named Sunny cuddled up with a little boy.

At first glance, the video appears to show an ordinary family moment. Sunny rests comfortably beside his young companion as the pair enjoys a quiet cuddle. The little boy gently embraces the dog, who seems completely relaxed and content in his new surroundings. However, the text included in the video reveals that Sunny’s life looked very different just weeks earlier.
According to the post, Sunny was a research laboratory dog only three weeks before the video was filmed. At that time, he was still living in a research environment. He is one of 1,500 Beagles rescued from Ridglan Farms, a Wisconsin breeding and research facility. The facility has operated since 1966. Ridglan Farms has long housed large numbers of Beagles. The facility bred these dogs specifically for scientific and medical research.
Animal welfare advocates have criticized the conditions many of the dogs experienced there. The Beagles reportedly spent much of their lives in small cages inside windowless buildings, with little opportunity to run, play, or experience the outside world. Following years of advocacy and protests by animal rights activists, a major breakthrough came along in April.
Two groups, Big Dog Ranch Rescue and the Center for a Humane Economy, reached an agreement to purchase 1,500 Beagles from Ridglan Farms. The rescue effort marked one of the largest Beagle rescue operations in recent years, with campaigners continuing to push for the release of the remaining dogs.
For Sunny, that rescue has already changed everything. The video’s onscreen text explains, “Tonight, he’s tucked into bed by his big brother, living the life every dog deserves. He’s safe, loved, and getting all the snuggles.”
Viewers were deeply moved by the transformation. One person commented, “This makes my heart happy. All dogs deserve this.” Another wrote, “I love when I see these happy endings for these tortured beagles.” A third added a hopeful message for Sunny’s future: “May every new memory push out an old one.”
