Imagine trying to behave yourself while someone naps, holding your favorite snack. That is exactly what happened with Cactus over at @cactustherescue. He is a rescue dog who is normally mild-mannered, but things change when there is food involved. Recently, Michael decided to see if his pup could actually resist a cup of yogurt.
According to his bio, Cactus is still figuring out his new life in a real home. Apparently, that includes learning the kitchen rules. Watching him battle his own conscience is genuinely one of the funniest things online right now.
Rescue dog has trouble deciding if he should steal dad’s food while he’s sleeping
The video starts with Michael sitting on the couch while holding a cup. He exclaims that he can barely keep his eyes open. Then, he sets the spoon down and shuts his eyes to pretend he is out cold. Cactus is sitting right there on the couch and starts eyeing the snack immediately.
It is clear that this rescue dog is having a very hard time ignoring his dad’s ignored food. Michael even starts fake snoring to make the act more believable. Initially, the pup tries to be a very good boy. He looks away from the cup as if he is telling himself it isn’t there. Then he looks right back because, obviously, it is still sitting right there.
He smacks his lips while glancing at his sleeping human’s face. He seems to conclude that his “fool” of a human is actually asleep in the middle of a snack session and decides it is finally time to make his big move. He dives into the cup and starts licking away with zero hesitation.
Michael “wakes up” and tries to move the snack away. However, the heist is already in full swing. Cactus doesn’t even care that he got caught in the act. He just keeps going, even as Michael tells him he’s stealing. One viewer joked that he was just saving his human money by not letting it get watery.
The rescue dog shows absolutely no regret as he finishes off the last few dregs of his dad’s yogurt. But it is hard to stay mad at a face that cute, even if he is a snack thief. Cactus proved that when it comes to a tasty treat, the “you snooze, you lose” rule is real.
