Honey, a nervous rescue pup featured by @cactustherescue, had an adorably guilty reaction after chewing up her human companion Michael Henry’s shoes. The reel captures her pacing around nervously, lowering herself to the ground, and offering apology kisses before gradually relaxing once she realizes she isn’t going to be punished.
What begins as a funny moment involving a ruined pair of shoes soon turns into a heartwarming glimpse into trust, patience, and the special bond between the rescue dog and her human.
Foster dog chews up her owner’s dress shoes and appears terrified before realizing she won’t be punished
The video begins with Michael Henry returning from the gym, only to discover that his shoes have been chewed up. He immediately asks, “Who did this?” before looking toward Cactus and then Honey. The foster dog appears to realize that the attention has turned toward her. She lowers her body, avoids eye contact, and looks increasingly nervous as Michael gently asks, “Honey, was it you?”
Honey quickly approaches him and begins giving him apology kisses. The on-screen caption explains that she was “trying to give me apology kisses,” while Michael tells her, “I think it was you.” Although the situation initially comes across as amusing, Honey’s anxious body language adds a more tender element to the moment. According to the caption, Michael believed the rescue pup was worried that she would be punished for chewing his shoes.
The post also points out that no one knows what Honey may have experienced in her previous living situation. Her reaction, therefore, appears to carry more weight than simple guilt, as she may still be learning that she is safe and does not have to fear being punished.
Throughout the interaction, Michael keeps his voice calm and reassuring, even joking, “I thought these shoes were ugly anyways.” Honey eventually sits in front of him with a visibly relieved expression, appearing to understand that she is not in trouble.
By the end of the video, Michael sets a gentle boundary rather than scolding her. He tells Honey, “No more chewing other stuff, okay?” and then asks her to shake on it. The pup responds by giving him her paw, turning the moment into one of reassurance and trust.
Rather than being punished for her mistake, Honey is shown that a chewed-up pair of shoes does not change the love and patience she receives from her human.
Viewers were moved by that patience. One person wrote, “Joy of having a dog! ❤️❤️.” Another added, “Bro you have to be the best dog dad ever.” A commenter said the shoe may have been a “transitional object.” Others wrote, “I think we might have a foster fail!” and “Not sure if I could ever be angry at those glistening loving eyes?”
