Rescue Dog Didn’t Want To Go Home With Dad at First, but That’s Changed

Adapting to a new place is never easy for a rescue dog, and this dad also felt the same when he brought the pup home for the first time from the shelter. And to show how the pup felt after coming home, the parent walked down memory lane by uploading a heartwarming video on social media, which has received more than 51K likes at the time of writing. However, after a few hiccups, the pooch and the parent are inseparable now.

Rescue dog’s first day with dad after leaving shelter to go home looked like this

This “rescue dog from the CA desert,” named Cactus, had a difficult time adjusting to his new home when he visited his forever place for the first time. And to show his struggles, dad Michael Henry uploaded a video on @cactustherescue with the caption, “Looking back at out first day together 2 years ago.” While showing a glimpse of picking Cactus from the shelter two years ago for the first time, the dad confessed in the caption that he “Cactus home from @pupswithoutborders thinking it would only be temporary. Just a foster. Just helping out.”

Initially excited to meet the owner, things changed when the pup sat in the car and headed home for the first time. Throughout the way, Cactus was “spooked” and started to get “very scared” when he was about to reach home. The pup even resisted getting inside the place. Even after exploring his new place, Cactus “got spooked again and hid under the bed,” as if hinting “he wasn’t quite ready for this new life.”

Even Henry “had no idea” what he was doing or getting into, admitting that the “first day was chaos. New smells, new space, and a very confused pup.” But after all the ups and downs and doubt, somehow the duo is still together. “Time flies in the best and craziest way,” wrote Henry after being with the pup for two years.

And even netizens could not agree more. “2 years already?!!! How time flys when you’re so loved,” said one follower. Another person mentioned, “The most wonderful journey  to watch.” A third remarked, “Aww Cactus was so little. He’s a big boy now. It’s amazing how far he’s come. Cactus is really confident now.”
