Senior Shelter Dog Once Loved Still Finds Happiness in Little Things

Many people looking for a new pet head straight for the puppies. But @rescueme_atl just posted a video that makes a strong case for the older crew. Loki is a senior shelter dog who is currently waiting for adoption in Atlanta. He spent his earlier years being loved by a family, but now he is on the shelter’s urgent list. Even though his world is not perfect, he still gets hyped about the smallest things. A visitor stopping by his kennel makes his day. Watching him wag his tail is heartbreakingly joyful.

Senior shelter dog up for adoption still gets excited about small things in life

The clip begins as a visitor walks toward a specific kennel in the shelter building. Loki doesn’t show any of the typical stress you might expect from a pup in his situation. Instead, he immediately starts wagging his tail with a lot of enthusiasm. He looks incredibly hopeful as the person gets closer to the glass.

This sweet senior from the shelter is clearly ready for adoption and doesn’t want to waste a single second. He actually gets up on his hind legs to meet the visitor eye-to-eye. He also smacks his lips and looks around like he is showing off his best side.

There are a lot of misconceptions about older dogs losing their spark. Loki is currently busy debunking every single one of them. While younger pups might be bouncing off the walls, this gentleman finds happiness in the simplest moments. He once spent his days lounging in the sun and his nights buried in blankets. Those memories clearly still fuel his spirit today.

A shelter worker mentioned that he loves carrying his “Mr. Squirrel” toy everywhere. Over 2,000 people have already liked the clip in hopes of finding him a permanent home. Many commenters are pointing out that older dogs truly are the best companions. They are often very loyal and already know the basic rules of a house.

This senior shelter dog is simply looking for a second chance at adoption before his deadline. One viewer mentioned that their own 16-year-old pup is the most loving member of the family. And we truly hope someone will come for sweet Loki and take him to his forever home.
