Keeping a desert-born explorer contained is apparently harder than it looks. Michael Henry just shared a stressful but lucky video of his rescue dog, Cactus, pulling a vanishing act. It happened in their backyard during a quick yard break. Michael is figuring it out with Cactus and his big bro Miso over at @cactustherescue, and he thought his DIY barricade was solid enough. But Cactus clearly had other plans that morning. He probably spotted a lizard and just went for it. The incident has definitely served as a reality check.
Video shows rescue dog listening to dad after escaping through backyard
The clip starts with Michael walking outside and sounding pretty confused and concerned. He asks, “Cactus, are you outside of the gate?” He then raises the camera to show the side yard. And there he is. Cactus is just standing on the wrong side of the fence, where he managed to slip through a tiny gap in the scrappy barricade. Thankfully, the anxious dog doesn’t look scared.
In fact, he wags his tail upon hearing his dad’s voice, as if he always knew his dad would come to his rescue. He also looks extremely proud of his little adventure. Michael, on the other hand, sounds worried, but he keeps his cool. He gets closer and asks Cactus what he is doing, and tells him firmly this is not good. But the rescue dog just blinks back at his dad with zero regrets.
He was totally determined to get through that fence. So the DIY setup is officially getting an upgrade now. Michael opens the gate as he tells the rescue dog to “Get back inside now,” which Cactus obeys quietly. He runs right back into the house without any drama. Honestly, it could have been so much worse.
This video of a rescue dog listening to his dad already has over 12k likes because everyone was so relieved. One viewer mentioned they couldn’t handle a “Cactus is lost” post, and Cactus didn’t even have his collar on. Michael usually lets him relax without it for quick breaks. But he says that’s a lesson learned. Someone in the comments suggested an AirTag for the future. And people are just glad he stayed close to home.
