Let’s set the scene for you: a quiet living room, a pair of scissors, and one very opinionated pup on the couch. The video shared by @steventhetalkinglurcher captures a fur grooming moment that clearly wasn’t on the senior rescue dog’s list of favorite activities.
The page is mostly known for Steven, the talking lurcher who loves sunny spots, but this time the spotlight lands fully on his housemate, Philip, a Rottweiler and Akita mix. It’s a necessary job, but it’s also an understandable reaction. Because while Philip isn’t exactly stopping the process… he definitely wants everyone to hear how he feels about it.
Senior dog is not okay with paw fur being trimmed, but lets owner do it anyway
Philip is lying on his side of the couch, looking very comfortable, and yet he sounds very grumpy. Dad is holding a pair of scissors. He is trying to trim the fur off his paw pads. And every time the scissors make a snip, Philip lets out a deep growl. One viewer even asked if the owners knew there was a tiger on their couch. Another said he sounds like a lion.
He is not trying to be aggressive at all but is just being very vocal about the situation. Dad tells him to be a good boy. But the growling just gets louder. Mom is standing back and filming the whole thing. And she is mostly just laughing. Dad ruffles Philip’s head to calm him down. The scissors stay away for a second.
And this video of the senior rescue dog shows him actually settling for a moment. But then Dad gets back to work. The growls start right back up. “Not even mildly intimidated mate,” Dad says. “Well, maybe a bit.” Philip looks so irritated. “98% growl, 2% intimidate,” a comment joked. It is a lot of noise for a dog who is too lazy, actually, to stand up.
“Philip, you’ve got hairy toes,” Mom says. And that seems to be when he finally makes peace with his life. He just lets Dad finish the job. Grooming these older pups is actually very important. A commenter pointed out that long hair on the bottom of paws makes them slip on floors. Especially as they age and do not exercise as much. It is a big injury risk.
