A Bernese Mountain Dog named Fred just would not let his owner have his cup of coffee in this hilarious Instagram video from user @kornhefr. Why? Because coffee time is cuddle time, whether his owner agrees or not. In the video, Fred and his owner sit outside on a wooden bench. But the problem starts the second the owner tries to settle in with a cup of joe — Fred tries to tackle his owner on the bench as if he booked it in advance, forcing his human to hover and shuffle.
Dog attempts to make the owner leave every time they try to enjoy their coffee
In the on-screen text of the video by @kornhefr, the dog’s owner says, “Coffee spilled absolutely everywhere…” — and you immediately see it happening. Between Fred’s huge body, his determination to stay glued to his person, and the uncomfortable angles of a mug in the owner’s hand, the coffee never really stands a chance.
At one point, the owner says, “Fred, I wanted to sit here!” The pooch responds with a caption that translates his inner voice, “Fine, I’ll make some room for you,” — and he does technically make room by shifting just enough to allow his owner to sit on the edge. Meanwhile, the dog remains firmly in control of the bench.
Then a caption from Fred’s point of view reads, “I don’t care about your stupid coffee, I want to cuddle!” which sounds about right. It’s not like Fred hates coffee so much as he hates anything that competes with his owner’s attention.
If your hands are full, you cannot pet your furry friend, and if you are focusing on a mug, you are not focusing on them — so an affectionate Bernese Mountain Dog would obviously want you to leave everything and cuddle with them first.
Meanwhile, viewers loved the battle of Man vs. Mug. One person joked, “Where you are, the coffee is going to have to deal with that,” while another asked, “What’s the ratio of coffee drunk to coffee spilled lol.” Well, Fred may not be a morning person, but he is definitely going to fight for your attention.
