You’d think after six years of living the good life, those old fears would be totally gone, but Winston still has days where he just can’t bring himself to hop out of the car without a pep talk. This massive Great Dane is a rescue pup with a heart that still remembers what it felt like to be abandoned.
A new video from @thedanesofatlanta captures one of those tough moments where the rescue dog is just frozen in the car’s backseat. He isn’t being stubborn or lazy. He is actually just really scared, and his mom knows exactly how to handle it. Instead of rushing him, she just stays put, right there for him.
Rescue Great Dane was abandoned before, which is why getting out of car is challenging for him
The video shows the pet mom sitting in the car, leaning close to her rescue dog. She keeps saying “it’s okay” while he just stares out with these really apprehensive eyes. He won’t move an inch, and it’s because his trust was broken a long time ago. The Great Dane is worried that if he gets out, he won’t see her again. “I think every human will leave me,” the owner shared in his voice in the caption. It is honestly so hard to see him like that.
The dog mom just gives him softest pets and asks if he’s ready to go inside, but he just lies down. He is not ready. So, she pulls his head into a big hug. The pooch leans in, but you can still see the doubt in his eyes. It looks like he is trying to remind himself he is safe. Great Danes are such sensitive souls and they really bond with their people.
The owner asks him again if he wants to go in and get a bone, and that actually seems to do the trick. She tells him how good he was during her audition earlier. He starts smacking his lips and looking a bit more like himself. And he eventually decides it is safe to move.
The post has over 47,000 likes and the comments are just overflowing with love. People are pointing out that a Great Dane’s bond is next level. One viewer mentioned how these big babies just need that extra reassurance. It is sad that he still carries that weight after so many years. But he has the best support system. His mom never stops reminding him that he is home for good.
