Video Explains Golden Retriever’s Attachment to Baby’s Hospital Blanket

An adorable video from Instagram user @agoldendogmom shows a Golden Retriever named Loki turning a hospital baby blanket into his whole personality. Well, the internet can’t decide what’s sweeter — the planning behind it, or the way Loki acts as if the blanket belongs to him. But if there’s one thing clear, it is that he is emotionally attached to the blanket.

Golden Retriever becomes attached to baby’s blanket before first meeting with baby

The video shares what happened when the family brought a baby blanket home from the hospital before introducing the Golden Retriever to their newborn. The on-screen text adds context, reading, “we took a baby blanket from the hospital to our dog before introducing him to our baby & this is how it went,” and safe to say, Loki’s reaction is intense in the purest way.

He grabs the small white blanket and carries it around like a prized possession. In one moment, he rests on his dog bed with the blanket carefully tucked in his mouth, and in another, he lowers his head onto the blanket as if he is settling in for a nap. He even trots up the stairs with it, tail up, looking like he is on an important mission.

The parent confirmed that this wasn’t a one-minute obsession. In the caption, they wrote, “that baby blanket was Loki’s baby.. it didn’t leave his side for weeks.” It further went, “highly recommend taking your dog a baby blanket from the hospital before introducing them to baby.”

Dogs take in the world through scent, and a blanket from the hospital carries both a familiar “family” smell along with the mesmerizing baby scent. For many dogs, this helps the first meeting feel like they already know the little one.

Viewers loved how calm Loki seemed throughout the whole thing, with one commenting, “I absolutely love how intentional this was… you can tell how calm he is,” while another explained, “His two favorite humans smell combined together, what more could a doggy ask for!” Then someone accurately noted, “It’s safe to say it’s his blanket.” And it definitely is.
