Labrador Abandoned by Owners Due to ‘Busy Work Schedule’ Gets Forever Home

Owning a pet means signing up for the good days and the inconvenient ones, too. It’s early mornings, busy evenings, and choosing responsibility even when life feels overwhelming. When that commitment isn’t honored, animals often end up paying the price. One recent video shared online shows a young Labrador experiencing that reality firsthand after being abandoned by her owners.

1-year-old Labrador gets a forever home after previous owners abandon her in shelter

The video, shared by @thepoochproject, shows a one-year-old Labrador Retriever named Mila sitting quietly inside a kennel at Downey Animal Care Center. According to the caption, Mila was surrendered by her owners on January 2 after they said their busy work schedules no longer allowed them to properly care for her. The timing was especially heartbreaking, as the shelter noted she was beginning the new year alone in a kennel.

Shelter staff described Mila as visibly shaken upon arrival. As seen in the clip, she appears nervous in her enclosure as other dogs bark loudly around her, further adding to her stress. At just one year old and weighing 64 pounds, Mila is still very much a young dog adjusting to a sudden and confusing change in her life.

Despite her fear, the shelter shared that Mila has a gentle and affectionate nature. Her former owners told staff she was sweet, enjoyed human attention, and liked to play catch and run around. However, they noted she could use help building confidence, something the shelter hoped a patient adopter could provide.

The video quickly gained traction online, with viewers expressing sadness and frustration over Mila’s situation. Many commented on how anxious she appeared and urged others to help her find a loving home. Some users wrote that they hoped someone would “scoop that sweet girl up” quickly. Meanwhile, others emphasized that pet ownership is a long-term commitment, not something to walk away from when life gets busy.

Not long after the video circulated, the shelter shared an update in the comments confirming that Mila had been adopted. The news brought relief to many who had followed her story, marking a hopeful ending for a dog whose year had begun in uncertainty.
