It is absolutely understandable to be nervous about unhooking your dog’s lead in the middle of a snowy field. But Maria, who posts her Golden Retriever’s life on @hudsonstaysgolden, clearly has way more faith in her pup than most people. Hudson is usually busy being a school therapy dog in the NJ area with his teacher mom. So he’s basically a professional at keeping his cool even when the world is a giant marshmallow. In this video, she decides to ditch the leash entirely to see what happens. Spoiler alert: Hudson emerges as the goodest boy.
Golden Retriever listens to owner even while walking without a leash
When the clip opens, we see Hudson in his full winter gear: boots, coat, the whole nine yards, and he is just beaming. Like, the dog cannot stop smiling. On-screen text says, “I took off my dog’s leash…” and your brain immediately prepares for chaos. But then she stops walking. And Hudson stops too. He just halts right next to her like that was always the plan.
Then, Mom asks him to smile. And he actually does it. He makes his face even wider. It’s the cutest thing ever, and it’s no wonder the post has over 5.2k likes already because the sheer focus he has on his mom is just… wow. One person in the comments was literally like, “ma’am I think I’m in love with your dog,” and yeah, join the club.
Next, the text flashes, “He did run off…” which feels like a fake-out until it finishes with “…when I asked him to like this.” Hudson zooms to a nearby tree, loops around it perfectly, and comes straight back.
He tries doing a “bridge” on command, too. But there isn’t enough space. And then he gets a treat for doing all of it, obviously. That’s when we see the best part about this video and the Golden Retriever without a leash. Hudson runs around happily in the snow, carrying a massive stick. One person in the comments from the UK said he literally cures their gloomy weather blues. And that’s a big compliment for this boy who loves to leave people happier.
