If you’ve ever had canceled plans at the last minute, you probably know the mix of confusion, disappointment, and mild outrage that can follow. Dogs, it turns out, aren’t much different. They form expectations, look forward to familiar faces, and react strongly when something they’ve been anticipating suddenly doesn’t happen. When one Golden Retriever realized a long-awaited play date wasn’t happening after all, his reaction in a video was anything but subtle.
Golden Retriever is unhappy after BFF misses play date in video
In the video shared by @nautidoggo, Nauti, a Golden Retriever, stands in the middle of a quiet street, looking around expectantly as his owner films. He appears convinced that his best friend, Finn, will arrive at any moment. Onscreen text adds a humorous layer by voicing Nauti’s imagined thoughts, starting with his owner playfully asking, “Where is himz?” The response on screen reads, “I don’t know mumz,” setting the tone for the pup’s growing confusion.
As the moments pass, Nauti begins to pace back and forth, letting out small grunts and low growls that suggest mounting frustration. At one point, he sits down right in the road, clearly prepared to wait as long as it takes. His body language shows hope mixed with impatience, especially as he looks into the distance and wags his tail, seemingly convinced Finn could appear any second.
When his friend still doesn’t arrive, Nauti’s disappointment becomes more vocal. He lets out a long howl, with onscreen text translating his feelings as, “Mumz where is my friend?” His owner gently tries to explain that Finn likely isn’t coming today, but Nauti doesn’t seem ready to accept that answer. Toward the end of the clip, he howls once more, this time with the caption, “How dare he miss our play date,” perfectly capturing his sense of betrayal.
In the caption, Nauti’s owner writes that he was “not happy and definitely voiced it.” One commenter joked that Finn “better make it up to him,” while another suggested giving Nauti a soothing brushing to help him calm down. Others offered to step in as a substitute friend, with one writing, “I’m not Finn, but I’ll hang out with you, bud.”
