Video Shows Dog Is Opposed to Sharing the Bed With Puppy

If you have a sibling or shared a couch, you know that personal space matters. Dogs are no different, and they often form strong attachments to the places they consider their own. When those spaces are suddenly occupied, even the most patient pup may feel compelled to speak up. One recent video shows just how strongly one dog feels about her bed.

Dog is not okay with sharing bed with the puppy in adorable video

The video, shared by @dottie_chanel_adventures, features Dottie, a Dalmatian who clearly values her personal space. In the clip, Dottie approaches her bed, ready to settle in, only to discover her younger puppy sister, Chanel, already stretched out comfortably in the spot. Dottie pauses, visibly uncertain, as if weighing her options before taking another step forward.

Rather than reacting aggressively, Dottie first tries a polite approach. She gently taps Chanel with her paw, seemingly asking her to move aside. Chanel, however, remains relaxed and unbothered, showing no intention of giving up the cozy space. As Dottie attempts to climb onto the bed, her discomfort becomes more obvious. She lets out a bark, signaling her displeasure and making it clear that sharing was not part of her original plan.

Meanwhile, their owner can be heard encouraging Dottie to share the bed. She hopes to ease the tension and foster a stronger bond between the two dogs. Despite the reassurance, Dottie continues to bark; each attempt to step closer is met with more hesitation. She taps Chanel again, clearly frustrated, while Chanel stays put, blissfully unaware, or relatively unconcerned, about the drama unfolding beside her.

Territorial behavior like this is typical in dogs, especially when it involves valued resources such as beds, toys, or food. Older dogs may feel uncertain when a new puppy enters their space, particularly if they are used to having certain areas to themselves. To help ease these situations, experts often recommend designating a specific resting spot for each dog and gradually encouraging shared time through positive reinforcement. Rewarding calm behavior and avoiding forced interactions can also help dogs build trust and adjust at their own pace.
