Dogs Are Playing Tug of War, but Not How It’s Meant To Be Played

Who knew a game of tug of war could be so calm? Two Goldendoodles are winning hearts online after their owner, Instagram user @sociallykels, shared a hilarious video showing the dogs “playing” tug of war — only without the actual tugging part. The clip proves that sometimes, even when nothing happens, it is impossible not to smile.

Dogs are playing tug of war without tugging in funny video

In the short video, the dogs can be seen playing tug of war, but by standing perfectly still, each holding one end of a white cloth in their mouths.

Neither of them moves a muscle. They simply stare at each other, somehow completely committed to doing absolutely nothing, while the onscreen caption reads, “Idk what’s wrong with my dogs but they like playing tug of war without tugging.”

What makes the video even funnier is that this standoff lasts for several seconds, if not minutes. Moreover, both dogs look completely serious about their version of the game, as if they have come to some silent agreement along the lines of “no one pulls, so no one loses.” The caption jokes, “I think they are having fun.”

Viewers loved the lighthearted moment, flooding the comments section to share their amusement. One viewer joked, “That’s just called sharing,” while another quipped, “I think they hit a glitch! Love them so much lol.” A third user wrote, “So who’s the winner??” While another added, “Apparently they have come to a truce.”

Many dog owners chimed in with their own experiences. One commenter wrote, “They would do the same thing with the frisbee… they’d stand there for a half an hour.” While another user joked, “You need to restart them, turn them off and on again after 10 seconds.”

By the end of the video, it was clear that the two dogs had created their own relaxed version of playing tug of war — a kind of “tug of understanding.”
