Halloween decorations can be scary, and a Golden Retriever puppy’s video shows he was not impressed by them. In a new Instagram video from @goldenboyharvey, Harvey, the titular pup, sits in a shopping cart and spots a spooky decoration. Though curious initially, the spookiness gets to him, and his reaction becomes an internet sensation.

The golden retriever puppy’s video opens with Harvey peeking over the shopping cart as the on-screen caption reads, “Whatz that dad.” The camera then pans to a human-sized scarecrow animatronic with a pumpkin face. It has glowing yellow eyes, a wide mouth with sharp teeth, long straw hair, a black coat, and a tall hat. As Harvey continues staring at the unusual figure, the following caption calls the decor “so ugly.”
For a moment, the puppy freezes. He gives the prop another long look without a blink and then shuffles in his seat. Soon enough, Harvey scoots toward the corner of the cart. The caption explains his inner voice: “Didn’t like this toy.” Finally, the puppy inches toward his owner as if saying, “Just take me home, please.” He promptly receives a reassuring head pat before the shot cuts back to the scarecrow.
The video’s caption reads from the Golden Retriever puppy’s point of view: “You guys… I don’t know about spooky season.” Moreover, a little “help” at the end of the caption mimics Harvey’s feelings.
Viewers sure did come to help, but with sympathy and laughter.
