The end of summer always feels a little bittersweet. We pack away the swimsuits, brace for shorter days, and hang onto the last moments of warmth. That’s exactly what one TikTok captures in a video of two Golden Retrievers closing out summer on the beach. Calm, content, and completely present, they embody everything we love about spending the season with our pups.
A pair of Golden Retrievers have a relaxing time at the beach in a TikTok video
Levi, one of the Golden Retrievers featured in the clip, is seen lounging comfortably in a chair with the gentle ocean breeze ruffling his fur. Alongside him is his companion, another Golden Retriever, equally content as they enjoy the rhythmic sounds of the waves and the warmth of the late summer sun. Their owner shared the video on TikTok with the caption, “Enjoying the last few moments of summer.”
Part of the charm of seeing Levi and his friend by the ocean is that it fits so naturally with the breed’s history. Golden Retrievers were originally bred in Scotland during the 19th century to retrieve game from both land and water. Their thick, water-repellent double coat kept them warm in chilly lakes and rivers, while their webbed feet made swimming easier. Over generations, these traits have stuck, making them one of the breeds most at home near water.
Having said that, if you’re planning a beach trip with your pup, preparation makes all the difference. Pack fresh water and a portable bowl, as seawater can cause stomach issues. You’ll also want to provide shade with an umbrella or pop-up tent so your pup has a cool resting spot.
After playtime, rinse salt and sand from your dog’s coat to prevent irritation. Moreover, keep your dog on a secure leash unless you’re in a safe off-leash area, as waves and crowded beaches can be overwhelming.
Most importantly, allow time for both activity and rest. Like Levi and his companion showed in the TikTok, dogs benefit just as much from relaxing in the breeze as running and swimming. A well-balanced outing will leave your pup happy, healthy, and ready for more summer adventures.
