Video: ‘Soul Dog’ Soaks up More of Life With Owner After Health Scare

Don’t you just love quiet mornings? There’s something special about those early hours. And for Teddy the Golden Retriever and his devoted human, that calm means more than ever. Not long ago, they faced a frightening health scare, waiting anxiously for test results before finally hearing the best news — Teddy was cancer-free.

Since then, they’ve promised to slow life down, treasure the little things, and fill their days with moments worth remembering. In a heartwarming video, the dog owner captures one of those moments — a sunrise adventure where Teddy, toy in mouth, was ready to go.

The video has become an instant hit online, with over 367k likes on Instagram. One reason for it to resonate so deeply with people is that it emphasizes enjoying every second with your loved ones. It begins at 4:52 am, with Teddy bright-eyed and ready for adventure. By 5:52, the pair is boarding a boat in the dark, heading out into calm waters with the hope of catching the day’s first light.

As dawn breaks, they share snacks, scratches, and a peaceful stillness that spells calm. Then, nature throws in a twist — a massive cloud rolls in, hiding the sunrise completely. But the missed view only makes the morning more memorable. Teddy even takes over the “captain’s seat,” paws on the wheel, steering them home by 7:21 a.m. The video closes with his human’s promise: they’ll try again another day.

For those who’ve followed Teddy’s journey, the scene feels particularly special. Some time back, his human shared the anxiety of finding a mass on his spleen, the relief when it was removed, and the joy of learning it was benign, i.e., to say no cancer. Seeing him now, happy and healthy, makes the moment on the water even sweeter.

The comments section is just as touching as the clip itself. One person wrote, “They are so precious we really don’t have them long enough… if love alone would keep them safe, we’d have them forever.” Another admitted, “So precious. Don’t know why I’m crying. Maybe it’s because our sweet dogs bring us so much love and joy and are only here for a short time.” A third viewer shared, “What a beautiful reminder of the love between a man and his dog… glad to see that Teddy is doing better.”
