Modern family life isn’t complete without the dog seated in the middle of the couch, or in this case, between mom and dad during a memorable birthday moment. With social media full of videos of pets doing human things, it’s only right that Emma the Rottweiler stepped up when it was time to honor her dad’s big day. What she did next, though, deserves a standing ovation.
Rottweiler reacts to dad’s birthday in sweetest way
Emma, a lovable Rottie, is the furry daughter of Mick (aka Mits Nishikawa) and Sammi, who regularly share glimpses of their adorable family life on Instagram. In a recent video that’s gaining traction online, the dog mom sits on the floor with her partner and Rottweiler, ready to tell the pup some important news.
“Are you ready?” Sammi asks gently. Emma responds by placing her paw in her mom’s hand, as if to say, “I’m listening.” That’s when the pet parent announces, “It’s daddy’s birthday.”
Emma’s ears immediately perk up in surprise. She then lets out a few excited “awoo” vocalizations before briefly leaving the frame. A moment later, she returns with a plush sunflower toy in her mouth — a birthday gift, it seems, for her dad.
However, the highlight of the video comes next. Sammi suggests they sing “Happy Birthday” to the dog dad. When she starts the song, Emma joins in without missing a beat. The dog mom cleverly pauses at the end of each line, letting the Rottie fill in the gaps with her joyful howls.
The coordination is surprisingly on point and quickly turns the video from sweet to hilarious. By the end, both Mick and Sammi shower their musical pup with praise for her enthusiastic performance.
If you’re thinking about including your dog in your next celebration, there are plenty of easy and safe ways to do it. Let them “gift” a toy, like Emma did, or involve them in group activities with simple training cues.
You can also make dog-friendly treats. Giving them their own “cake” made from safe ingredients like peanut butter, pumpkin, or apples is also a great idea. Most importantly, keep the atmosphere calm and positive so your pup feels comfortable. Just like Emma, your furbaby might surprise you with their own unique way of joining in on the fun.
