Azula the Pit Bull is rewriting the definition of “outgoing.” Most dogs might wag their tail at other pets or cozy up to a familiar human. However, Azula tries befriending cockroaches, leafy greens, and robotic vacuums with equal passion. A video chronicling her attempts to socialize with just about everything in sight has gone viral, offering a hilarious and surprisingly wholesome look at one extrovert rescue dog’s daily mission to connect with the world.
Instagram video shows rescue dog warming up to everyone, from a cockroach to a green bean
A video of the rescue pup was posted on Instagram with the caption: “things my extroverted dog tried to make friends with this week.” What follows is a montage of moments that show Azula’s lovable, overly friendly nature.
The reel opens with Azula discovering a cockroach. However, rather than reacting with fear or aggression, she decides to toss it around gently, playfully engaging with the insect like it’s a new toy. Next, she stumbles upon a lone green bean on the couch. She investigates it closely, then gives it a little nibble. Apparently, vegetables are potential friends, too.
Azula’s social energy isn’t limited to inanimate objects or tiny critters. The video shows her at the dog park, approaching a Doxie puppy perched on its owner’s lap, eager to introduce herself. One of the funniest clips features her facing off with a robot vacuum, cautiously but curiously engaging with the machine as it hums across the floor. Not stopping there, Azula also tries to get playful with a limp piece of lettuce. Finally, the clip shows her engaging with her canine brother Harvey, pawing at him in hopes of some sibling playtime.
Raising a friendly dog starts with consistent exposure to different people, pets, sounds, and environments early on. Positive reinforcement helps dogs associate new things with good experiences. It’s also important to read the dog’s body language to ensure the interactions are safe. Similar to humans, dogs have unique personalities. Although not every canine will be as extroverted as Azula, giving them exposure to the world will help them gain confidence as companions.
