If there’s one thing dogs refuse to believe, it’s that a stick can ever be too big to carry. But reality has a way of humbling even the most ambitious pups. In a now-viral video, one Labrador dog recently learned this the hard way when his prized stick met an uncooperative park gate, forcing him to think fast and get creative.
Video shows how a Labrador successfully runs through a gate with large stick
In the reel posted by the Instagram account @mylabrachildren, a Labrador named Percy is seen happily running through a park, holding a large stick horizontally in his mouth. As he approaches the gate, he tries to run straight through. However, the challenge becomes immediately apparent as the stick is too wide to fit through the opening. With a loud bang, Percy collides with the gate, momentarily stunned by the obstacle in his way.
Not one to give up easily, Percy attempts to maneuver the stick, tilting his head to see if he can squeeze it through at an angle. When that doesn’t work, he drops the stick and walks through the gate himself. However, he isn’t ready to leave his prize behind. Percy quickly turns back and starts tugging at the stick, determined to bring it with him.
His owner, who can be heard in the background encouraging him with “Get it, Percy!”, watches as the dog keeps trying. After several attempts, Percy finally finds the solution. He breaks the stick in half, making it small enough to pull through. His persistence pays off, and he trots away proudly with his newly shortened stick. The video is captioned, “Percy is so silly and smart at the same time.”
The video has quickly become a favorite among followers of @mylabrachildren, who enjoy watching the daily antics of Percy and his Labrador siblings. “Oh, Percy! You always make us smile!” one fan gushed. Another playfully wrote, “Don’t knock your teeth out Percy! You crack me up every day.” Many were entertained by his determined yet slightly clueless approach, with one user noting, “He knew he had to pivot, but just didn’t know when exactly.” In response, Percy’s owner said, “He was so close to getting through first time.”
