Chrissy Teigen and John Legend have expanded their family by welcoming a rescue dog named Dudley into their home. The couple introduced the adorable pup to the world on March 23 — National Puppy Day — by sharing a heartfelt video on the Instagram account of their pet supplies company, Kismet.

Dudley’s journey to his new home began under challenging circumstances. Shortly after the Los Angeles wildfires broke out in January, the Wags & Walks rescue group took him in for care. At the time, he was battling severe pneumonia, requiring intensive medical attention. His condition was so critical that he spent 13 days in the hospital, relying on round-the-clock care and oxygen treatment. Despite these challenges, Dudley’s resilience shone through, and he gradually began to recover.
When Chrissy Teigen, 39, and John Legend, 46, learned about the rescue dog and met him for the first time, they felt an instant connection. In their adoption announcement, the couple reflected on the emotional moment, sharing that Dudley had endured so much yet still managed to win their hearts. “When we first met Dudley, he was fighting for his life,” the couple wrote in the video’s caption. “Thirteen days in the hospital, endless love from his foster family, and an incredible recovery later — he’s officially home.”
The announcement video included touching photos of Dudley snuggling under blankets and receiving cuddles from the couple’s two eldest children, 8-year-old Luna and 6-year-old Miles. Their youngest children, Esti and Wren — born just months apart in 2023 — also now share their home with Dudley.
For the Teigen-Legend family, Dudley’s arrival is bittersweet, coming not long after the passing of their three-legged French Bulldog, Penny. Teigen shared on Instagram earlier this year that Penny had been with their family for 11 years and was born on the same day as the couple’s wedding.
In their announcement about Dudley, Teigen and Legend acknowledged the void left by Penny. They expressed that while no dog can replace another, “the universe sends us the reminder that we need to open our hearts again.”
