Shelters can be overwhelming places for animals, especially for those who have endured trauma or neglect. A heartwarming yet emotional video posted by Instagram user @lovely_lives_paws captures the first few moments of a foster dog named Flower stepping out of such an environment and experiencing her first moments out of the shelter.

The video gives viewers a raw glimpse into Flower’s fragile state after being rescued from a high-risk shelter. In the footage, Flower is trembling and appears visibly distressed, likely a mix of fear and relief as she adjusts to her unfamiliar surroundings. Her foster mom noted that Flower was dealing with several challenges. The pup was covered in diarrhea stains, suffering from kennel cough, and on top of everything, she was pregnant. To make matters worse, she had been placed on the euthanasia list before Air Twiga Animal Rescue stepped in to save her.
“She has a future family out there waiting for her,” the foster mom wrote in the caption. She explained her decision to temporarily care for Flower despite not being able to adopt her permanently. The post further describes Flower as “gentle and polite” with other pets and even likely to do well with children.
In a follow-up video, her foster mom shared that Flower had gone into labor unexpectedly. She had left Flower alone for less than 10 minutes, only to return and find that Flower’s water had broken in the middle of the night. Not only that, Flower went into labor eight hours before her foster mom was supposed to move out. Despite the chaotic timing, the fosterer managed to retrieve her whelping station just in time.
Through the night, Flower worked through her contractions. In total, she gave birth to eight puppies, though tragically, only seven survived. Her foster mom described the process as stressful yet awe-inspiring. She noted that Flower instinctively began nesting and endured obvious pain throughout the night. Updates on Instagram show the puppies thriving under Flower’s care, while the pooch herself has been slowly recovering from her traumatic past.
