Hope can sometimes be found in the most unlikely places. And for Big Panda, a street dog in Thailand, it came from a concerned stranger and a community of supporters on Instagram. A video on the platform shows the rescue dog’s incredible journey of resilience as she fights to regain her health.

Big Panda’s fate changed when Pi Lek, a compassionate local, brought her desperate situation to the attention of the animal rescue foundation Happy Doggo. The once energetic dog had been weighed down by an overwhelming 80-pound frame — about 30 pounds over her ideal weight. Her health had sharply declined due to severe liver damage, blood parasites, and erratic blood sugar levels. On top of that, she was covered in hundreds of blood-sucking ticks, and leeches were emerging from her skin, making her condition even more heartbreaking.
Despite these overwhelming challenges, Big Panda has shown incredible tenacity. Just 24 hours after receiving medical attention, she has managed to walk again. Rescuer Niall Harbison, who documented her journey, shared his initial anxiety over her condition. “I was a bit worried last night thinking about her and didn’t sleep as I convinced myself she might not make it,” Harbison wrote in the caption. However, Panda’s will to survive, coupled with the medical treatment she received, has brought a glimmer of optimism.
After alerting rescuers to Panda’s condition, Pi Lek remained actively involved and checked in on her progress multiple times. His compassion went even further when he expressed his desire to give her a forever home once she fully recovered.
This gesture of kindness resonated with many social media users, who expressed their support and encouragement in the comments. “So happy that Pi Lek sought help for and its brilliant news that he has offered her a home.
