Birdie was with the 52-year-old for nearly a decade after Garner welcomed the canine into her family in 2015. The actor is now mourning the loss of her beloved dog.
Jennifer Garner’s dog Birdie ‘lived a happy dog life’
Jennifer Garner penned a heartbreaking tribute to her dog Birdie on Instagram. The actor wrote, “It is hard to know how to write this— it seems nuts, given the world, to mourn a pet, but since we have shared Birdie with all of you, it only seems fair to let you know of her passing.” Garner revealed Birdie started to show signs of illness on Thursday. The actor shared, “Birdie let us know on Thursday that she wasn’t feeling herself (a renowned foodie, Birdie never missed a meal).”
Moreover, Garner noted they were “surprised” when they learned Birdie was “very ill” and at the “end of her life.” The vet told the actor’s family that dogs often hang on and wait until their person comes home. Garner wrote, “We believe Birdie did just that, so that we could pet her soft ears together and thank her for being the world’s best dog.”
Meanwhile, an emotional Garner continued to reminisce about the moments she spent with Birdie. The actor shared her late pup loved to be read to. Garner added that Birdie “always found her way into a Pretend Cooking Show.” The actor shared that the canine “knew just how to give people what they needed.” Garner noted, “as evidenced by her happy days as a dog therapy team with Mo.” The Garner referenced Birdie’s work as a certified therapy dog.
Furthermore, Garner shared that Birdie lived a “happy dog life” and has now taken the role she was born to play — an “angel girl.” The actor also penned, “It’s a gift to love and be loved by such a creature as Birdie the Doggie.”
