California Dog Euthanized by Mistake an Hour Before Adoption

On June 11, a shelter dog scheduled for adoption was mistakenly euthanized due to miscommunication among staff members. The woman who was set to adopt the canine wants answers from the animal shelter in Los Angeles, California. Moreover, the Pit Bull mix was euthanized just an hour before she was meant to be picked up by the woman.

A dog was euthanized by mistake on Tuesday, just an hour before she was to be picked up by her future parent. Jianna Maarten Sadda was ready to bring the adorable Pit Bull mix Sheba home. However, she was informed that her to-be pet was dead. It was due to miscommunication among the staff at Los Angeles Animal Services.

Sadda had called the shelter to inform them she would be adopting Sheba and would pick her up at 3 p.m. However, when she called back an hour before the scheduled time, the staff let her know that Sheba was no more and had been put down. The news came as a shock as the shelter had assured her they would keep the dog safe till she came in to pick her up.

Sheba had spent more than half her life in the animal shelter. She had been up for adoption for a whole year. However, the euthanization wasn’t due to behavioral issues with the pup, as Sadda noted that she was a “good dog.” She told NBC4 Los Angeles that the Pit Bull mix was killed to make space for other animals.

The pup’s euthanization was part of Los Angeles Animal Services’ new policy. It gives canines 72 hours before being put down if an authorized rescue group doesn’t take them in. This would help solve the animal shelter’s overcrowding issue. However, the shelter dog was euthanized due to a miscommunication between the staff members. Some of them weren’t informed that Sheba would be sent to her forever home that day.
