A Pit Bull mix puppy rescued by firefighters in Buffalo, New York, has found her forever home with one of them. Firefighter Anthony Pulvino didn’t expect to meet his furry companion at the Buffalo Fire Department when he considered adopting a puppy. However, as luck would have it, he felt an instant connection with the canine when she was brought in with a wound from being hit by a car.
Firefighter adopts puppy he helped rescue in Buffalo
On April 5 in Buffalo, New York, two teenagers brought an injured puppy to Engine 19, asking the firefighters for help, per WIVB. The dog was hit by a car at an intersection that was about a block away from the firehouse. The high school students saw the canine getting injured. They then promptly rushed to the fire department to see what could be done.
The Pit Bull mix didn’t have a collar or identification to go by. Moreover, one of her back legs was injured in the accident. Anthony Pulvino and his crew got to work and cleaned up any scratches and wounds. Following this, they placed the rescued puppy in a box and took her to an emergency vet. Unfortunately, her rear leg had to be amputated, but she was ready for adoption within a few weeks.
According to Fox News, Anthony Pulvino was ready to take her in if nobody claimed her. So, he left his number at the vet. Once she had recovered, the vet called Pulvino to ask if he would like to adopt the rescued puppy. The Pit Bull mix has now been named Auburn, according to a suggestion from Pulvino’s colleague’s wife. Auburn holds special meaning for him and his crew, so he decided to stick with the name.
Now, the rescued puppy gets to enjoy regular visits to the firehouse. People on the streets also recognize Auburn as she is good with kids, other dogs, and cats as well.
