Viral Dogs Slipping on Ice Video Is a Warning to Owners

With icy grounds lurking everywhere this winter season, it’s not just humans losing their balance and falling on slick surfaces. Recently, the video of two Great Danes slipping on an icy entryway has left the internet in stitches, with many describing the fall as “hilarious.” However, it also acts as a warning.

The viral clip —  which has amassed two million plus views on TikTok so far — shows the two dogs coming back inside the house one after the other, only to slip on the icy entryway towards the door.

TikTok user @kaylyreed shared the video along with the caption, “It is cartoon kinda icy here! They are okay, don’t worry.”

From the hilarious video, it looks like the sudden fall left both pups feeling confused. Nonetheless, they each got up and walked into the house like nothing had happened.

As expected, the clip has sent most TikTok users into a laughing frenzy. However, not everyone is amused, judging from the comment section.

One user wrote: “Uh oh it’s Scooby Doo and Scooby Dum running from a spooky ghost!”

Another shared: “They were coming in hot!”

A concerned user commented: “Thank goodness they didn’t get hurt,” to which someone else replied, “I don’t think some people realize how easily a leg can be broken or ligament damage.”

Can dogs get hurt when slipping on ice?

While dogs can seem more resilient than humans, slipping on icy floors does put them at risk of both minor and serious injuries.

Similar to humans, a dog’s joints, muscles, and joints are susceptible to sprains, strains, muscle tears, and dislocation

According to the South Seattle Veterinary Hospital, dogs who slip on icy surfaces can sustain a sprained leg or, worse, suffer serious injuries such as severe muscle tears. Unfortunately, these injuries might affect a dog’s long-term mobility and overall quality of life.

For this reason, it’s essential to exercise a few precautions to protect your dog from ice-related falls. For instance, getting your pup rubber dog boots can help them maintain balance while walking on slippery grounds.
