Police arrested a dog groomer in Tulsa, Oklahoma, for allegedly killing a 4-year-old Goldendoodle. According to court documents obtained by KJRH News, Jaimes Diego Angel allegedly beat the dog to death during a grooming session.
Goldendoodle allegedly beaten and killed by dog groomer
According to another dog groomer who witnessed the incident, the Goldendoodle, Atlas, was in the middle of a grooming session when it defecated on the table. Allegedly, Angel repeatedly punched Atlas. The beating lasted several minutes. Then, Angel allegedly moved the grooming table up and down, choking the dog. When he realized the dog was no longer breathing, he and a coworker performed CPR. Then, they transported the dog to a local animal hospital. Veterinary staff were unable to revive the dog.
On Sept. 1, the dog groomer witness called Tulsa Animal Welfare to report the incident. That organization took possession of the dog’s body. The organization submitted the body for a necropsy at the Oklahoma Animal Disease Diagnostics Laboratory in Stillwater. Tulsa Animal Welfare also contacted the police.
Dog death under investigation
Soon, the authorities launched an investigation. According to court records, the dog groomer witness also reported the incident to the owner of the grooming salon. That person pulled the security footage. In an affidavit, a security company employee said the footage depicted “a man murdering a dog.”
On Sept. 7, the Tulsa County District Court granted an arrest warrant to Tulsa Animal Welfare and the Tulsa Police Department. According to KFOR News, police found Angel at a dog show. Officers from the Elk City Police Department arrested him. He was then extradited back to Tulsa County.
The dog groomer has not admitted to killing the Goldendoodle. His side of the story is that he was grooming the Goldendoodle when the dog suddenly stopped breathing. Then, he moved the dog to the floor and performed CPR.
However, investigators watched the video of the incident during their investigation. Given that Angel is now facing felony animal cruelty charges, we can only conclude his story and the footage don’t align.
