Burglars Spray Influencer’s Dog With Mace

An Instagram influencer and her dog were the victims of an alleged robbery in Las Vegas, according to Fox5 News. Liziane Gutierrez, who boasts 1.2 million followers on the social media platform, was the victim of a break-in. Burglars sprayed her dog with mace before making off with the influencer’s designer wares.

One day, Gutierrez went to the gym, leaving her small dog Duchess home alone. Security footage shows burglars breaking into the home. In the video, Duchess approaches the thieves. That’s when one man sprays the pup with mace. The burglars rush upstairs, locate Gutierrez’s designer jewelry and bags, then flee.

“They took most everything that I have, but this is nothing compared to what she’s going through. How do you do this to a puppy?” Gutierrez told the news outlet. “Every time I see the footage, my heart is in pieces. She’s my baby,”

Duchess received veterinary care for her eye injuries. She is taking “a slew of medications” to help her maintain her eyesight.

Police are now investigating whether Gutierrez’s perpetrator is among her social media followers. It is unclear if the robbery was targeted or simply one of many in the neighborhood.

“Now everything changed,” Gutierrez said. “A lot of people watch us to target us.”

If you have any information regarding this incident, police ask that you call Crime Stoppers at (702) 385-5555.

Protecting your dog from burglars

As a dog parent, there are some proactive measures you can take to prevent burglaries and ensure the safety of your fur baby when you’re away from home. One important step is to avoid posting your whereabouts on social media platforms when you are away from home. Sharing your location information live on social media can inadvertently alert potential burglars to your absence. Additionally, secure your home by installing reliable locks, alarm systems, and surveillance cameras. Always close curtains or blinds when you are away. Also, consider crating your dog or confining them to their own room while you are away from home. Doing so can help prevent injuries that may occur due to the dog’s protective instincts or accidental confrontations.
