National Dog Day is here again. Hurrah!
According to official sources, the celebratory event, which takes place on
August 26th of every year , is designed to “bring attention to the plight of animals and encourage adoption.”
That’s obviously a very worthy aim — but how about we twist things up a little and suggest a bunch of non-traditional ways you and your pooch can bring attention to the goals of National Dog Day?

Best Ways To Celebrate National Dog Day
Cook A Canine-Friendly Meal For You And Your Pup

We've all glanced at the mighty healthy ingredients to a package of premium organic dog food and thought, "You know, I could actually eat that."
Well, take it one step further by donning your best novelty apron and rustling up a home cooked meal for two that both you and your dog can chow down on.
Boiled chicken, blueberries, or carrots might be your dog-safe, go-to ingredients for this one.
Sing For The Moment

Give your favorite song a canine-centric makeover. Simply replace crucial words with the name of your dog or other themed lyrics.
If you're stumped, try starting by substituting a key word in the title with "bark." So the hook to Drake's "One Dance" quickly becomes, "I need a one bark/ Got a chew toy in my mouth..."
Channel your inner Weird Al and belt out a doggy parody with your favorite pooch!
Talk Like A Dog

Find a few like-minded friends or colleagues and attempt to get through the day by communicating only in dog noises.
You never knew a deep growl could convey so much during a staff meeting!
Checkmate! Play Some Games

Alternatively, keep it cerebral by attempting to play a game of chess with your dog. Sure, it probably won't pan out as planned, but if Eddie from Frasier can hang at the checkered board...
On second thought, maybe stick to fetch or hide and seek.
Have A Doggy Happy Hour

Okay, sometimes in some states it's not technically allowed, but it's not hard to find a local bar that will happily let you bring your dog along for a few early happy hour brews. Many locations have open patio areas so you can sip with your pooch while you social distance.
Or, if you'd rather spend some one-on-one time with your canine, have a happy hour at home with some alcohol-free "beer" for dogs !

Make the effort to wake up super early and take advantage of any off-leash hours in your local municipal parks. (They're often before 8 or 9 a.m.)
You can also head out to the dog park and get started early on a full day of fun for your pup.

Invite one of your non-dog having friends along for a (socially distant) walk and play session.
You never know, they might become so smitten with the idea of having a pooch to tag along that you'll encourage them to adopt their own special pup.
At the very least, you may also stumble across someone who's willing to scoop that poop when you're otherwise engaged.
Have A Doggy Tea Time

Stay classy and treat yourself and your favorite pup to a fancy, high-class afternoon tea date.
Get dressed up in your best finery, put a top hat on your hound, and enjoy a civilized and refined afternoon of tea and cucumber sandwiches with the crusts cut off.
While tea may be for humans only, there's no reason your pup has to miss out on some yummy biscuits !
Doggo Dance Party

Take strides to get in on the canine freestyle dance scene. Yes, dog dancing is a thing!
While the official rules involve a mix of obedience training and dancing spiced up with some tricks, you could also fashion an impromptu dance party by putting on your favorite playlist and dancing like a maniac around the house.
Although, don't be surprised if your dog just ends up giving you a quizzical but disproving look when it comes to your best moves.
