Fur babies and human babies don’t always get along. But one couple’s twins received a better-than-expected welcome from their dog when they brought their twin girls home. The bond between the three of them is so strong – and so adorable – that the trio have gone viral on TikTok.
Bringing Home Babies (To Meet the Fur Baby)
Josh and Kelly Rheaume of Capreal, Ontario, first adopted rescue dog Lucy when they were dating. The pup has “always been a daughter to us”, they said. So, they likely expected a little sibling rivalry when they brought twins Lily and Lennon home.
“She was confused,” Josh told Today of the dog’s reactions. “For about five, six days, she was very standoffish… She tried to go in the car seat…trying to take their place so she could get our attention again. It was quite sad actually.”
The new parents learned that the best way to help Lucy adjust was to involve her in the caretaking of the little ones. Lucy was already skilled at certain party tricks, like getting a beer from the fridge, so Josh and Kelly taught her how to retrieve other things, like milk bottles or baby books.
“The thing about Lucy (is) she has very good item recognition and word association,” Josh said. “(It’s) something that’s kind of imprinted in her brain.”
Patience and positive reinforcement have also done wonders for training Lucy to be a household helper.

On a TikTok account cleverly titled @uhohtwins, Lucy can be seen tugging a car on wheels full of baby supplies toward the camera. She also “fetches” baby clothing.

The videos of the dog have been viewed all over the world, garnering the account 99.2K followers and 2.3M likes as of this writing.
Now if only the new parents could teach Lucy how to babysit so they could have a date night!
