According to the Humane Society of the United States (HSUS), an estimated 6 to 8 million cats and dogs are taken in by shelters every year. Of those, 3 to 4 million are adopted while most of the others are put to sleep. There are many ways you can help improve the quality of life for the cats and dogs for adoption, even if you’re not in a position to provide them with a permanent, loving home.
