Interview with dog trainer Carole Peeler

Carole Peeler

Washington, D.C.

What’s the best dog toy? Kongs for inside the crate, Twist & Treat for mental stimulation.

What mistake do you see owners commonly make? No pre-work. In other words, people don’t choose the right dog. They make their selection based on looks rather than what type of dog would work best in their home.

Advice for new owners? If you do your homework, it’ll be easier to find the right dog. And once you have the dog, make time for him. He’s not a stuffed animal or an accessory. Educate yourself about responsible ownership.

What’s the most important cue or command to teach your dog? First, name recognition. Second, “watch me.”
