Can Dogs Eat Steak? Is Steak Safe For Dogs?

Can dogs eat steak? You may be asking this because you want to introduce another meat into your dog’s diet, or maybe they snagged a steak from your plate while you weren’t looking, and you’re worried about their health. Humans can eat steak, so is it also safe for dogs to eat?

The short answer is yes, steak is safe for dogs to eat. Steak, in moderation, is a good source of omega fatty acids and other beneficial nutrients for your doggo.

As with all human foods, you should ask your veterinarian before feeding your dog any new dietary additions. Here’s what you should know about feeding steak to your dog.

How Is Steak Good For Dogs?

Steak, which can be made from a variety of cuts of meat from a cow, is chock full of essential fatty acids that keep your pup moving and healthy.

Beef is often an ingredient in many dog foods and treats, so feeding your pup a hearty steak on occasion can be a good boost of energy for your dog.

You should, however, forgo butter and seasonings on your dog’s steak. If your pup got ahold of a steak made for humans, they may have some stomach upset due to these additions.

Just as you would do if you were cooking a steak for yourself, you should be sure to take care in preparing this hunk of meat for your pup. You don’t have to burn your dog’s steak to a crisp, but you should cook the steak to ensure that it’s free of bacteria that lives in raw meat.

You can leave the center of your dog’s steak a little red, as raw, red meat does contain some beneficial properties for your pup. Additionally, you should cut steak into bite-sized pieces to mitigate choking risk.

If dogs eat too much steak, they may develop issues related to high levels of cholesterol. Because of this, you should feed your dog steak in moderation.
