We don’t like to talk about it, but it happens. Sometimes, our best friends have bad breath. Whether or not their breath smells though, dental health in dogs is vital for a long and happy life.
Dental diseases in dogs can worsen or lead to fatal conditions if not treated and are on the rise as one of the top contributors to deaths in pets. Bad breath is often one of the first signs of many of these issues.
It’s important not to just cover up bad breath in dogs in every case. If the issue becomes extreme, it’s prudent to see your vet as soon as possible.
However, if your dog just happens to enjoy drinking from the toilet once in a while, and you’re wanting to cover up the smell of potty mouth, here are some great methods to make your pup’s breath a little more pleasing to the senses. And remember to ask your vet before you try any natural remedies!

Healthy and crunchy treats, like apples -- make sure there are no seeds! -- and carrots are great snacks for your pup. They can also help to break up tartar and bacteria on teeth that causes bad breath.
Daily servings of these or other crunchy, dog-healthy snacks might be just what the doctor ordered to help your dog keep those pearly whites in good shape!

Mint

Fresh mint is wonderful. It goes great with various recipes or can just be added to water. For humans, it also works great in a mojito!
But for your dog, it can make a great addition to a meal, too. The added bonus is the chlorophyll that fights bacteria, not only in the mouth, but the digestive tract, too!

Probiotics

While bacteria is causing that nasty-smelling breath in your dog, there are such things as good bacteria! Some of those good bacteria are probiotics.
We have these, too! They're essential for breaking down food in our digestive tracts, and they can throw things out of whack when they're out of balance. The same can be said for our four-legged friends.
Make sure that the probiotics you obtain for them are specifically for dogs, though.

Coconut oil reduces harmful bacteria and plaque buildup. It also prevents tooth decay and fights gum disease. It's like it was crafted for oral hygiene!
Coconut oil can also work for your teeth, as well, so share it with your dog so that you both have shiny, healthy teeth!
